Has your jacket developed a longer tear, several small holes close together or damage that needs more material? Cut out a piece to fit, stick it in place and use the garment again – without a needle or thread.
The XL patch measures 10 × 30 cm and gives you 50% more material than our classic 10 × 20 cm repair patch. The extra length is useful for covering a longer tear or cutting several patches from the same sheet. It can also be used to cover a logo or printed design, for example on the back of a jacket.
You do not need to know exactly what the jacket is made from. The patch works best on thin, relatively smooth outer fabrics, such as nylon, polyester or the outer fabric of a Gore-Tex shell garment. It is very thin and sits close to the fabric when pressed down firmly.
The pack contains one self-adhesive 10 × 30 cm repair patch, a separate guide and two alcohol wipes.
- Clean the area with one of the included alcohol wipes and allow the surface to dry completely.
- Cut out a piece that covers the damage with a generous margin around it. Round the corners to reduce the risk of the edges being rubbed up.
- Peel only a small section of the patch away from the backing paper. Leave the rest attached so that you do not need to touch the adhesive.
- Position the patch over the damage and secure the exposed section in the correct place. Gradually pull away the backing paper while pressing down the rest of the patch.
- Press the patch firmly and evenly against the fabric. Rub over the entire surface and pay extra attention to the edges.
- The garment can be used straight away, but ideally leave it for 24 hours if possible.
A new jacket may look completely clean while still having factory-applied waterproofing or another surface treatment. This can make it more difficult for the adhesive to bond properly.
Always clean the area with one of the included alcohol wipes – even if the garment is new and looks clean. Allow the surface to dry completely before applying the patch.
Because the XL patch can be used for longer repairs, it is especially important to press firmly across the entire surface and along every edge. Durability is also affected by the fabric, the position of the damage, wear and how carefully the patch is applied.
If you want to cover a logo or printed design, the patch needs to bond to clean, smooth fabric around the entire area. Remember that the patch is 10 cm wide when measuring how much material you need.
If possible, gently warm the patch with a hairdryer for a few seconds after applying it. The warmth softens the adhesive and helps the patch make better contact with the fabric. Do not heat it for longer – extra heat will not improve the bond and may instead dry out the adhesive.
You can achieve a similar effect by rubbing the patch firmly against the fabric. The friction produces a little warmth while pressing the patch against the surface.
The product colour may look slightly different on screen. We have matched the colours in the images as closely as possible, but screen settings and resolution can affect how the shade appears.
