Looking for a practical way to protect shoes, clothing or bags from rain, dirt and stains? This proofing spray creates an effective, water-repellent protective layer without affecting the material’s breathability.
We have tested the spray and think it does its job well. It can be used on leather, fabric, suede, nubuck, synthetic materials and performance fabrics – including materials with a GORE-TEX membrane. This makes it suitable for shoes, bags, rucksacks, shell jackets, outdoor clothing, pushchairs and much more.
The spray is water-based, PFAS-free and suitable for indoor use. It also carries the Swedish Bra Miljöval eco-label and is certified according to OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT. The bottle contains 300 ml of highly concentrated proofing liquid.
- Make sure the surface you wish to treat is clean and dry.
- Shake the bottle thoroughly.
- Spray evenly from a distance of approximately 30 cm. The surface should become visibly and evenly damp.
- Leave the material to dry for 24 hours.
When treating an unfamiliar material or colour, we recommend testing the spray on a small, inconspicuous area first.
What does PFAS mean, and what does the eco-label actually tell you? Let’s break it down.
PFAS is the name given to a large group of substances that have long been used to make materials resistant to water, grease and dirt. The problem is that these substances break down extremely slowly and can remain in the environment and the body for a long time.
This proofing spray is completely free from PFAS. Instead, it has a water-based, biodegradable formula that still helps the material resist moisture, dirt and stains.
What does Bra Miljöval mean?
Bra Miljöval is a Swedish eco-label operated by Naturskyddsföreningen. Naturskyddsföreningen is an independent Swedish nature and environmental organisation whose role is broadly comparable to that of organisations such as The Wildlife Trusts in the UK.
The label shows that the product meets defined environmental requirements. For the customer, it provides a simpler way to identify a more considered option without having to investigate the entire formulation independently.
And OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT?
OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT is a certification for chemicals and formulations used in industries including textiles, leather and footwear. It means that the contents of the proofing liquid have been reviewed and tested against defined criteria.
More proofing liquid and less propellant
This is a pump spray and contains no propellant. That means more of the bottle is filled with the proofing liquid itself. According to the manufacturer, the highly concentrated liquid provides more than twice as many treatments as a similarly sized propellant-based proofing spray.
The proofing liquid is also vegan and made in Sweden. The bottle is made from 100% recycled plastic.
