Want to practise shooting, stickhandling or ball control away from the ice? An off-ice blade protector reduces wear on the stick blade when playing on asphalt and other hard surfaces.
The protector fits along the bottom edge of the blade and creates an additional layer between the stick and the ground. It is made from durable polypropylene and features flexible sections that allow it to follow the curve of the blade.
It is suitable for both left- and right-handed composite sticks. The protector can be trimmed to the required length and should be secured firmly with tape before use.
- Position the protector along the bottom edge of the stick blade.
- Shape the flexible sections around the front of the blade.
- Trim away any excess length.
- Secure the protector firmly with electrical tape or another durable tape.
Before each use, check that the protector is still firmly attached and has not cracked or worn through.
The protector is designed to absorb wear that would otherwise affect the stick blade directly. It is therefore a wear part, and its lifespan will depend on the playing surface, how often it is used and how heavily the stick is put under strain.
Rough asphalt will wear it down faster than a smoother surface. A correctly trimmed and firmly taped protector will generally stay in position better and experience less unnecessary movement.
The feel against the surface and when handling a ball or puck will not be exactly the same as playing on ice.
