It is often the plastic tip that breaks long before the shoelace itself needs replacing. These metal lace tips let you repair the lace easily while giving it a neat new finish.
Cut away the damaged section, slide the lace into the metal tip and secure it with the matching screw. A small screwdriver is included, so you have everything required for fitting.
The metal tips are made from brass and are not only suitable for shoelaces. They can also be used on hoodie drawstrings, joggers and other garments with drawcords.
You receive four metal tips in your chosen colour. They are available in several colours and can be unscrewed and reused on another lace or cord.
- Cut away the damaged plastic tip or shorten the lace to the required length.
- Insert the end of the lace into the metal tip.
- Place the matching fixing screw into the hole.
- Tighten it using the mini screwdriver provided.
- Check that the metal tip is secure before using the lace.
When a lace is cut, the end can begin to fray. This may make it difficult to push the lace into the narrow metal tube.
A simple solution is to wrap a single layer of tape around the lace end. The tape gathers the fibres together and makes it much easier to slide the lace into the metal tip.
For synthetic laces, you can instead very carefully heat the cut end with a lighter so that the fibres fuse together. Allow the end to cool completely before inserting it into the metal tube. Do not hold the flame against the lace, as the material could melt excessively or catch fire.
