Description
Are your trousers too long? This hem tape makes it easy to shorten trousers, jeans and other heavier fabrics without using a needle and thread. A practical option when you want to create a neat hem without getting the sewing machine out.
The hem tape is a polyester strip with white adhesive threads on one side. Soak the strip first, then place it inside the garment with the adhesive side against the fabric. It is then pressed into place with an iron.
The strip measures 200 cm long and 2.4 cm wide.
For curtains and other thinner or lightweight fabrics, choose Hem Tape – Hem Curtains Without Sewing instead.
How to use the hem tape
- Measure around the opening of the trouser leg and add approximately 2 cm. Cut the hem tape to this length.
- Trim away the excess fabric, leaving enough to fold up a hem of approximately 2–3 cm.
- Fold up the hem and iron the crease so that the fabric lies flat.
- Soak the hem tape thoroughly in water and gently squeeze out the excess.
- Place the strip around the hem with the white adhesive threads facing the garment. Allow the ends to overlap slightly and lay the strip flat without stretching it.
- Set the iron to the two-dot heat setting and switch off the steam.
- Press the iron onto the hem tape for approximately 15 seconds at a time, working in sections around the entire hem.
- Allow the hem to cool completely.
