Description
It is often the plastic tip that wears out long before the shoelace itself needs replacing. With this heat-shrink tubing, you can easily create a new, secure end instead of throwing away a perfectly usable lace.
The tubing can be used when the original plastic tip has fallen off or when you want to shorten a shoelace that is too long. Cut the lace to the required length, slide on a suitable piece and heat it carefully until the plastic has shrunk tightly around the lace. It works equally well on hoodie drawstrings and other garments with drawcords.
You receive four tubes in two different diameters, making them suitable for laces and cords of different thicknesses. The tubes are long enough to be cut into several new lace ends.
The heat-shrink tubes are attached to a card. Simply cut off the piece you need and leave the remainder attached as a spare. This makes the small pieces easier to store and less likely to go missing.
- Cut away the worn end or shorten the lace to the required length.
- Cut off a suitable length of heat-shrink tubing.
- Slide the tubing over the end of the lace.
- Heat carefully until the plastic has shrunk evenly and sits tightly around the lace.
- Allow the lace end to cool before using it.
We get the best results with a lighter that produces a narrow jet flame. Hold the flame a short distance away from the tubing and keep moving it backwards and forwards in short passes.
Do not hold the flame still or directly against the plastic or lace, as this could melt or damage the material.
You can also use a heat gun on a low setting or dip the lace end into boiling water. Boiling water is a gentler option, although the shrinking process may take longer and may be less powerful.
