Backpack buckle – Replace a broken side-release buckle

The size refers to the maximum width of webbing for which the buckle is intended. Measure the width of the webbing itself before ordering – not the outside dimensions of the old buckle.

As a guide:

• 20 mm: suitable for narrower straps, such as those on smaller bags, children’s backpacks and lighter equipment.
• 25 mm: by far the most common size and normally used on most types of backpacks, bags and lighter harnesses.
• 38 mm: suitable for wider and stronger webbing, such as that found on larger bags, luggage straps and some outdoor equipment.
• 51 mm: commonly used on wide hip belts, such as those found on larger hiking backpacks.

Choose a size that matches the width of the webbing:

• 20 mm buckle: for webbing up to 20 mm wide
• 25 mm buckle: for webbing up to 25 mm wide
• 38 mm buckle: for webbing up to 38 mm wide
• 51 mm buckle: for webbing up to 51 mm wide

For example, if the webbing is 25 mm wide, choose a 25 mm buckle.

Each purchase includes:

• 1 complete side-release buckle
• 2 webbing adjusters in the same width

The adjusters can be used to alter the length of the webbing and help keep it in place.

The buckle fits directly onto the webbing and requires no tools.

• Remove the broken buckle from the webbing.
• Thread the webbing through the opening in the new buckle part.
• Adjust the webbing so that the buckle faces the correct way.
• Use the included adjusters if the webbing needs to be shortened, lengthened or held in place.
• Click the two parts together and check that they lock securely.

The buckles are UV-resistant and have been machine-tested using tensile testing.

Load before the buckle breaks:

• 20 mm: approximately 7 kg
• 25 mm: approximately 11 kg
• 38 mm: approximately 25 kg
• 51 mm: approximately 35 kg

These results show the measured breaking point during testing and should not be interpreted as a recommended working load.

Check that the webbing is intact and that its width suits the selected size.

The buckle can be fitted without sewing, provided that the construction of the strap allows the old buckle to be removed and the new one to be attached.

Measure the webbing carefully before ordering. A buckle that is too narrow or too wide may allow the strap to slip or prevent correct fitting.
