Description
Has your down jacket got a small hole or tear? Choose a shape that covers the damage with a small margin, stick it in place and use your jacket again – without scissors, a needle or thread.
The pack contains eight pre-cut patches in four different shapes, with two sizes of each. The smallest measures 4 cm and the largest 10 × 7 cm. The different formats make it easier to find a patch that suits the damage. All the edges are rounded, reducing the risk of the patch being worked loose through rubbing.
You do not need to know exactly what your jacket is made from. The patches work best on thinner, fairly smooth outer fabrics, such as nylon, polyester or the outer fabric of a Gore-Tex shell garment. The thin patches sit close to the fabric once they have been pressed down firmly.
- Clean the area with one of the included alcohol wipes and allow the surface to dry completely.
- Choose a shape that covers the hole or tear with a small margin around it.
- Peel only a small section of the patch away from the backing. Leave the rest attached so that you do not need to touch the adhesive.
- Position the patch over the damage and stick the exposed section in the right place. Gradually pull away the backing while pressing down the rest of the patch.
- Press the patch firmly and evenly against the fabric. Rub over the entire surface, paying particular attention to the edges.
- The garment can be used straight away, but leave it for 24 hours if possible.
A new jacket may look completely clean but still have a factory-applied water-repellent or surface treatment. This treatment can make it more difficult for the adhesive to bond properly.
Always clean the area with one of the included alcohol wipes, even if the garment is new and looks clean. Allow the surface to dry completely before applying the patch. This gives the adhesive a better chance to bond and is an easy step to overlook.
If possible, gently warm the attached patch with a hairdryer for a few seconds. The warmth softens the adhesive and helps the patch make better contact with the fabric. Do not heat it for longer – more heat will not improve the bond and may dry out the adhesive instead.
You can also rub the patch firmly against the fabric. The friction creates a little warmth while pressing the patch against the surface, producing a similar effect.
